Dental Implant Procedure
Cherry Hill, NJ

During the tooth implant operation, an artificial root is surgically placed to function as a replacement for the patient's natural tooth root. We have experts here at 856-667-3737 to help explain any of the processes for a dental implant procedure.

Preparation

The process of acquiring dental implants begins with a visit to the dentist for an examination and consultation. During this preliminary appointment, the dentist will review your medical records and formulate an individualized plan for treating your implant-related issues.

Bone, nerve, and sinus structures must all be carefully inspected. It is also necessary to take a panoramic x-ray to check for cavities and gum disease that could affect the success of the implant procedure. At this point, the dentist will also go through the benefits and drawbacks of dental implants versus dentures, dental implants versus dental bridges, and the dental implant material used.

Surgical Placement of an Implant

This dental work is typically done under local anesthetic at the dentist's office. People worried about the surgery may be given a sedative to help them relax.
The oral surgeon will make a cut in the gums to expose the bone, and then they will drill a hole to install the titanium screw. After that is done, the metal post is screwed into position. When the implant is in place, the gum tissue will be sutured over it to close it back up.

Putting in an Abutment

The abutment is placed once the implant has healed completely. It anchors the artificial tooth, or implant crown, above the titanium post. The abutment placement necessitates minor gum surgery to create a space for the implant.

General anesthesia is not needed because this can be done at the doctor's office. The gum tissue will heal around the abutment once it is in place, but it will not grow over it. The time needed for rehabilitation averages two weeks. Getting the porcelain crown placed would be the final phase of the oral surgery procedure.

Dental Crown Fitting

After obtaining new impressions of your teeth, your dentist will work to ensure a proper fit between the prosthetic and your natural teeth. Your new dental crown appointment will be scheduled once the swelling in your mouth has subsided.

First, an impression of your mouth will be made so that a dental surgeon makes an artificial tooth to fit onto the abutment. If a person is concerned with maintaining a natural appearance, they may choose a crown that is the same shade as their surrounding teeth. However, dental implant materials, such as permanent gold teeth, are also available.

Healing

It will take some time to feel better; meanwhile, you may expect to deal with minor pain and discomfort. The gums may swell, hurt, bruise, and bleed a little after placing the implant post. The symptoms you have been experiencing should diminish daily and disappear within a reasonable time frame. Please get in touch with us at 856-667-3737 promptly if the discomfort persists or worsens. Furthermore, if you are serious about speeding up your recovery, you should adhere to the post-surgery guidelines as prescribed.
