Why Are Dental Crowns Important?

Posted on 6/20/2022 by Evan
Why Are Dental Crowns Important? You may not think of your teeth as the most important aspect of your appearance, but they are one of the first things people notice about you—and that's if they don't notice the gaps where they're missing! With dental crowns, though, you can get back that full set of teeth and give yourself back that beautiful smile you were born with.

What are dental crowns made of.

Most crowns are made of gold, porcelain or a combination of both. Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns have all but replaced amalgam as a restorative material for natural teeth. There are several advantages to using PFM over conventional amalgam restorations, including strength and biocompatibility with surrounding tissues. A well-designed porcelain crown is also more cosmetically pleasing than an amalgam restoration in most cases.

Benefits of dental crown.

Dental crowns may seem foreign to you, but they're one of today's most popular options for improving your smile. Here are some of the benefits of dental crowns you won't need as many fillings: Drilling is expensive and messy, whereas a crown will solve a problem without much fuss. This can save you time and money in both immediate costs and future maintenance. A strong tooth: A standard filling or onlay adds minimal strength—think about it like using a Band-Aid on a broken arm. But unlike fillings, dental crowns don't break off because they add support to weakened teeth instead of simply masking damage. Less sensitivity: When there isn't enough enamel left on your teeth, it can become painful to eat certain foods or drink cold beverages—even hot ones!

Different types of dental crown.

There are three types of dental crowns: porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), all-porcelain, and all-ceramic. All three can cover teeth after a root canal or repair a tooth that's been badly damaged. Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are more common because they offer an attractive appearance at a lower cost than all-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns.
